The Association of Marine Park Tourism Operators Pty Ltd (AMPTO) is the peak industry body for marine tourism within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The association is a not-for-profit limited company, funded by members’ contributions, whose role is to represent its members’ interests in all forums, and further the development of best practice in presenting the wonder of this world heritage area to the world.

We are responsible for ensuring the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park – one of the world’s greatest natural treasures – is protected for the future. An ecosystem based approach is used, and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is widely recognised as one of the best managed marine protected areas in the world.

AMSA Safety Management

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority regulates commercial operations in the National System will have a focus on operators managing their operational risk. This focus is consistent with the General Safety Duty for all owners, masters, workers and passengers in the commercial marine industry.


National Employment Standards

Under the Safety in Recreational Water Activities Act 2011, a person who conducts a business or undertaking (PCBU) which provides recreational water activities is required to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of any person taking part in those activities.
