Introductory Diving

Introductory Diving

Visitors to Queensland may participate in a dive experience even if they do not have previous experience or qualifications. Those who would like to experience the underwater environment in a unique and exciting way may participate in what is called an ‘introductory dive’, ‘Discover Scuba Dive’ ‘Try Dive’ or ‘resort dive’. Many tour operators offer this experience which starts off with a short briefing of the underwater environment and the equipment that will be used, followed off with some skills demonstration and practice both above and below the water. Once this has been successfully completed, participants are escorted by fully qualified dive instructors at depths no deeper than 12 meters. Introductory diving is a great way for non-divers to begin their journey into exciting frontiers. Please remember that this is not a qualification that will allow independent diving the next time you dive, however, ask your tour operator if your dive may be recognised prior learning (RPL) for an entry-level dive course.

Helmet Diving

A unique underwater experience is offered in selective locations on the Queensland coast. Helmet diving is similar to an introductory dive as no experience is necessary, a short briefing of the underwater environment and the equipment to be used is delivered, and participants will be escorted by fully qualified dive instructors. Helmet diving is best suited for non-swimmers, and for those who would prefer to wear their glasses and keep both their hair and face dry. Breathing during the helmet diving experience is also very similar to breathing at the surface.
