Our aim

To promote the advancement and sustainability of scuba and snorkel diving, dive tourism and the tourism infrastructure surrounding it. To achieve this Dive Queensland draws on strong relationships with divers, dive operators & dive stores, dive charter vessels, dive resorts, government and NGO tourism entities.

Our mission

• Building destination awareness and raising the profile of our members through collaborative marketing programs and opportunities

• Promoting sustainable growth in safe recreational diving and snorkelling in Queensland through regulation and education

• Actively participate in the preservation and conservation of marine flora and fauna species and assist in the restoration of a marine environment compatible with this aim

• Support the philosophies and initiatives minded organisations.

Our Story

Every website has a story, and ours is a very exciting one. Dive Queensland is a member based partnership of likeminded people with a love of snorkelling and scuba diving. Our two principals: Dr. Terry and Cathie Cummins are well known in the global diving community with years of experience underwater. They exhibit a keen devotion to 'advancing snorkelling and scuba diving in Queensland' and wanted to help dive operators to promote to the world - Queensland as 'the world's largest dive site' with the very best in snorkelling and scuba diving available on the planet.

In mid-2024 Dive Queensland was born and immediately attracted members that offer the highest quality services and products in the dive industry. For our members we produce a quarterly B2B eNewsletter and daily updates and news for snorkellers and scuba divers from all over the world on our social media platforms.

Meet the dive crew

Dr. Terry Cummins

Principal Partner

Terry (TC to his friends) is a prominent figure in the global diving community and currently the principal partner of Dive Queensland. He also sits on two of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s advisory committees, is part of the Queensland Government Working Group Code of Practice (scuba diving, snorkelling & tech diving) committee, serves on several other Government & NGO committees and a Fellow of the Explorers Club of New York. Amongst his many awards, in 2013, TC received one of Australia’s highest honours: Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his contribution to scuba diving. Via the many years of engagement with the dive industry, his award winning photography, writing, and the countless hours spent underwater, he has witnessed the changes in the dive industry along with the human impacts on the underwater environment. His personal goal: “To maintain the long-term sustainability of recreational scuba diving and snorkelling in Queensland”.

Cathie Cummins

Cathie (‘Bubbles' to her friends) has 40 years of scuba diving experience and has logged over 1,300 dives across many of world’s best dive sites. She has a massive passion for the marine world and with the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea marine parks in her backyard, she finds much of the subject material for her award winning photographs. With a strong business and project management background, Cathie also sees diving as a way to bridge the gap between the day to day pressures of life and finding the time to accept new challenges. “The more you dive, the more you learn, the more you learn the better you dive and the more passion you develop for the marine environment. This is one of the reasons why Dive Queensland is so important to me – to bring to others the wonderful opportunities we have for snorkelling and scuba diving right along the Queensland coast”.

John Magee

John Magee’s love for the ocean began as a barefoot toddler, poking around chilly rock pools along Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast. Inspired by early David Attenborough documentaries especially a captivating black-and-white series on the Great Barrier Reef his fascination with marine life only grew stronger. By age fifteen he had his first camera in hand, capturing the beauty of the underwater world, a passion that has taken him across the globe. With more than 7,000 dives logged, John has explored many of the world’s greatest dive sites. Today, he shares his experiences through vibrant photography, engaging dive articles, and imaginative children’s stories, all celebrating the wonder and magic of the sea.

David Strike

Certified as a diver in 1961, with a background encompassing military, commercial, scientific, and technical diving sectors - and proficient and qualified in Open-Circuit and Closed Circuit Scuba, and Surface Demand Diving equipment - Australian-based, David Strike is a former Diving Instructor and Instructor Trainer Certifier, and a regular editorial contributor on dive-related topics to diving publications from around the world. Founder and Managing Director of an International media and advertising organisation before returning full-time to diving in 1990, Strike has organised several world class diving events – with an emphasis on Technical Diving – and is the recipient of several ‘Industry Recognition’ awards, the ADEX ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, and a Fellow of the Explorers Club of New York.
